Background Screenings & Driver Qualification Files

What steps do we take during a background screening?

Step 1: To Process CNS needs to Compile:

  1. Consent Form Signed by Applicant
  2. Three indicators (minimum): Driver First and Last Name, Middle
    Name/Initial, DOB, SS#, Applicant’s Address, etc.
  3. CNS provides ETA on Applicant’s Results

Step 2: Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

  1. Applicant Signs Release Form through Application Process
  2. CNS Submits MVR Request
  3. Instant MVR Results
  4. CNS Reviews Report – Flags any necessary items

Step 3: Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP)

  1. Applicant Signs Release Form through Application Process
  2. CNS Submits PSP Request
  3. Instant PSP Results
  4. CNS Reviews Report – Flags any necessary items

Step 4: Clearinghouse

  1. CNS Submits Full Query Request
  2. Applicant will receive notification email from Login.gov
  3. Applicant will log into their Clearinghouse account and consent to query
    • After 48 hours of no response from driver, escalation of this component will fall
      under CNS’ responsibility.
    • CNS will reach out to Applicant to inform them that they need to consent to query
    • CNS will offer support to the Applicant if needed
  4. Instant Query Results after consent from Applicant
  5. CNS Reviews Query – Flags any necessary items

Step 5: Criminal Background Check

  1. Applicant Signs Release Form through Application Process
  2. CNS Submits Criminal Background Check Request
    • Criminal Background Check Requests will occur under certain timelines
      set by specific City, County, and/or State Laws
  3. ETA will be posted as soon as Criminal Background Check request is submitted
  4. CNS Reviews Report – Flags any necessary items

Step 6: Previous Employer Inquiries (PEIs)

  1. Applicant Signs Release Form through Application Process
  2. CNS will perform PEI’s
    • Three “Good Faith” attempts will be made and documented
  3. CNS Reviews Previous Employer Responses – Flags any necessary items
